Symphony

Australia's renewables rollout and the AI-driven data centre boom are converging on the grid.

Driving the largest energy and infrastructure build outs of our generation.

02 / WHY WE EXIST
  • Renewables rollout puts new power in. Data centre and AI boom takes new power out.
  • Both depend on the same critical constraint: grid connection.
  • Both rely on the same infrastructure, delivered by the same capability.
  • Symphony is purpose built to connect Australia's renewable and digital future.

03 / THE LEGACY GRID

The grid we have was built for a world that no longer exists.

For a century, Australian electricity meant coal and gas. Large, centralised, predictable. The grid was built around that shape. That shape is now changing from both ends.

04 / THE CONVERGENCE

Two transitions are converging on the same network.

Coal is retiring. AI is arriving. Both depend on the same thing: connection to the grid. Australia is being asked to build for both at once.

60% of coal capacity retires by 2035. Replacing it requires 68 GW of solar, 32 GW of wind, and 19 GW of batteries.
AEMO forecast 500 MW of new data centre load by 2033/34. Within twelve months, enquiries reached 44 GW. 88× the forecast.
05 / THE BOTTLENECK

Every project, generation or load, now hinges on the same thing: the connection.

Connection used to be a component of the project. Now it is the project.

Substations, switchyards, transmission lines, and electrical balance of plant make up the most complex and most critical component of any project. They are also the most underserved.

06 / THE CAPACITY GAP

To meet that demand, the country needs to build 20× faster.

Figure 1: Historical and projected high-voltage connection capacity delivered(excluding regulated network)Chart data and assumptions: Historical bars (2016 to 2025) reflect Clean Energy Regulator accredited large-scale capacity (year-on-year change in cumulative accredited MW). NEM forward generation reflects the AEMO 2024 ISP Step Change gap-close pathway, with the 2024 and 2025 shortfall redistributed across 2026 to 2030. SWIS forward generation reflects the AEMO SWIS Demand Assessment 2042 with the 2031 step brought forward into the 2026 to 2030 build window. Pilbara forward generation reflects the WA Sectoral Emissions Reduction Strategy 2024 baseline. DC load reflects the AEMC NEM Access Package 2 and AEMO 2025 IASR connection request data, with approximately 30 GW cumulative by 2030 consistent with majority materialisation of the announced pipeline. DC generation assumes a 2.8x renewables-to-load ratio. Forward profile is shaped as a gradual ramp through 2030.

  • Australia has historically delivered ~3 GW of HV connections annually.
  • Baseline decarbonisation alone requires ~6× scale by 2029.
  • The full data centre opportunity requires ~20× scale-up in network infrastructure capacity.
07 / WHY THE MARKET CAN'T DELIVER IT
  • The connection has always been delivered one of two ways — either by the customer or by the incumbent TNSP. Neither holds up against what's coming.
  • 580 GW of private generation and load want to connect to Australia's grid.
  • The question is no longer who builds the projects. It is who builds the connection, and stands behind it for the life of the asset.
  • The contestable middle is open, and built for someone else to own.
08 / CLIENT-LED EPC

Client builds and owns the connection.

Client Asset
Connection
Shared Network
  • Not their core expertise. Network capability gets stretched as projects step up from distribution to 220 kV, 275 kV, 330 kV and 500 kV.
  • Fragmented accountability. Consultants, engineers, contractors, operators. The client integrates and carries the risk alone.
  • Same constrained EPC market. Procurement competes against every other developer for limited delivery capacity.
Optimised to deliver the build, not to stand behind it.
09 / REGULATED INCUMBENT

TNSP's contestable arm builds and owns the connection.

Client Asset
Connection
Shared Network
  • Historically perceived as safer, structurally isn't. Familiarity with the incumbent does not equal customer-aligned delivery.
  • Capability committed to the regulated build. In-house resources are needed for the regulated network expansion only TNSPs can deliver.
  • Parent's regulated returns shape the posture. Limited flexibility on design, price, and customer-centric outcomes, even where the contestable arm is ringfenced.
  • Same constrained EPC market. With no internal dedicated delivery capability, the offering faces the market against every other developer for limited delivery capacity.
An outsourced delivery model cannot provide certainty, with client experience shaped by mis-aligned incentives from a different era.
10 / WHAT SYMPHONY IS

Symphony was built for this.

Australia's only independent, vertically integrated connection infrastructure partner. We lead the regulatory pathway, design the asset, build it, operate it, and stand behind it for the life of the project.

11 / WHAT SYMPHONY IS

Built to deliver connection with certainty.

01

Independent

No regulated business to operate, no split focus. Symphony exists to serve clients connection infrastructure needs. That's our entire business.

02

Integrated

1,300+ specialists in-house. Electrical, engineering, manufacturing, construction, civil and operations under one roof. We don't subcontract the things you're holding us accountable for.

03

Scalable

Engineered as a product, not a project. Standardised, manufactured in-house, and deployed at the speed the energy transition now demands.

04

Aligned

For Symphony connection assets are a lifetime performance obligation, not just a delivery milestone. Our success is tied to yours, at handover and for the decades of operation that follow under market leading performance guarantees.
